Top 5 Things to do When Preparing for ASI Orlando

We’re a couple of days away from the second largest show in our industry, ASI Orlando. How we prepare as a supplier and how you prepare as a distributor go hand in hand. I asked our CEO, Dan Taylor, his thoughts on how distributors should prepare for their upcoming shows, here is what he suggested:

  1. Identify.  Identify which suppliers you want to visit and reserve time with them prior to the show. As I mentioned in a previous post, relationships are the most valuable part of how we engage and sell. As suppliers, our calendars fill up fast. Reach out to someone at your target supplier and ask for a meeting. When looking for new suppliers, check their distributor ratings on ESP and be choosy. There are too many of us in this industry to work with everyone. Choose the best
  2. Products.  Create a list of potential products that you’re looking for before you get to the show. You might be thinking there are way too many products to identify, and you’re right. Start by thinking of your clients, potential clients, and their needs. Another great tip would be to reach out to someone like Benn Chazan, a long time industry veteran, who will be able to talk to you about top products in the marketplace.
  3. Education.  Take advantage of ASI’s education and work towards certifications which will set you apart from your competition. Like I talked about earlier in this week in “Are You a Master of Your Space,” the time we spend mastering our domain is invaluable. The promotional products space is extremely competitive, it is imperative to out-think, out-service, and outperform your competition. Not only is it an excellent investment in yourself and your career, you get to engage and develop relationships with some of our industry’s top performers.
  4. Fun.  All work and no play is for the weak minded. There are so many great things to do at our industry’s tradeshows and conferences. For example, at ASI Orlando, the Gala will be held at Universal Studios’ Harry Potter World. Not to mention, going out and having fun is a great way to engage and network with other top performers in our industry.
  5. Keynote. All of our industry’s events come with great keynote speakers. Make sure you have that time marked off on your calendar. I find they keep me energized and motivated, and who doesn’t love those feelings?

I hope this helps you all prepare for your next show. For those of you who will be at ASI Orlando, we will be at booth 725. If you want to set up some one on one time, you can reach me here. I would love to sit down with any and all of you!
